Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will make a bid to sign QPR defender Steven Caulker on loan, reports The Telegraph.

The newspaper report that Liverpool have made an loan bid for the defender, who is currently on-loan at fellow top flight side Southampton.

However, the Southampton loan deal could be cut short early if a deal is agreed to take Caulker to Merseyside for the next six months.

Klopp has been desperate to add defensive numbers to his injury ravaged side and has missed out on Neven Subotic and Joel Matip.

A short term measure is the only option available to Liverpool and Caulker could step in.

The opportunity may well appeal to 24 year old Caulker, as he is desperate to kick start his career again. He has made one international appearance for England.

It is unknown whether QPR would want to do business, although if it meant that Caulker got more game time, they would be unlikely to object.

QPR have struggled this season and are yet to win a game under new boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. They lie in 16th place after 25 games in the second tier.
