Brentford defender would like to discuss Burnley move

Get West London understands that Brentford defender James Tarkowski in interested in speaking to Burnley over a potential transfer. Sean Dyche is a known admirer of the centre back and recently saw a bid to sign the player turned down.

The Bees reportedly will only entertain offers in the region of £5million for the former Oldham Athletic man. Ever since moving to the Griffin Park club in January 2014, Tarkowski has impressed at the heart of the Brentford defence and played a key role in helping the club reach the Championship Play-Offs last season. He also played the second half of the season as Brentford won promotion out of League One.

The 23-year-old is highly-rated by Brentford but it remains to be seen if they will lower their asking price or if Burnley are prepared to increase upon their original offer. Dyche is said to want a new centre back as Michael Keane has been heavily linked with a move away from Turf Moor and aged-38, Michael Duff isn’t a long-term prospect in that position.

Tarkowski is understood to be keen to speak to Burnley as he wants to be closer to his family in the North-West. Having signed for Oldham since the age of 16 and growing up in the Manchester area, he would at least like to discuss the possibility of signing for the promotion contenders.

He was left out of Saturday’s FA Cup defeat to Walsall, but manager Dean Smith insists that he will return to the squad to face Middlesbrough tomorrow night. Toumani Diagouraga is another who was left out and is another who has been linked with a move. Rangers are interested but Smith also said he will feature against Middlesbrough.
