AFC Bournemouth confirm Afobe signing

AFC Bournemouth have confirmed the signing of Wolves striker Benik Afobe.

The 22 year old has signed a four and a half year deal at the Premier League side and joins from Wolves on an undisclosed fee.

The former Arsenal trainee passed a medical earlier.

Afobe has scored ten goals for Wolves this season and scored 32 last year for the Midlands club and MK Dons, where he spent time on loan in League One.

The striker has represented England from Under 16 to Under 21 level.

Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake said “We are absolutely delighted to secure the signature of another undoubted talent in Benik Afobe.”

“It has been difficult to miss Benik’s outstanding progress as a player, firstly with MK Dons and then Wolves, where he has been a consistent threat in front of goal. His pedigree as an Arsenal Academy product must also not be underestimated.
“Thank you to Jez Moxey and Wolverhampton Wanderers who have been a pleasure to deal with throughout negotiations. We look forward to seeing Benik in an AFC Bournemouth shirt soon.”
Wolves will now need to sign a replacement for their top scorer, especially considering that they lost Nouha Dicko to a season ending injury earlier in the campaign.
The fee has remained undisclosed, although Sky earlier reported that it was in the region of £10m, which should allow Wolves funds to bring in a replacement.
They are favourites with Sky Bet to sign Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Wolves started the season slowly but their form has improved of late and they lie 11th in the Sky Bet Championship, seven points off the play-offs.
