Preston North End full back loaned to Exiles

Preston North End full back Ben Davies has joined League 2 strugglers Newport County on a one-month loan deal, according to the South Wales Argus.

The 22 year old left back will play his football for the South Wales club until the second week in February although the deal could be extended should the youngster impress Exiles Manager John Sheridan.

Davies had a hugely successful loan spell in League 2 at York City in the 2013/2014 season where the left back excelled as The Minstermen ended the season in an unlikely Play Off position.

City were defeated in the Play Off Semi Finals by eventual winners Fleetwood Town but Davies ended the season having made 44 appearances for The Minstermen and was in contention for the club’s Player of the Year award.

The youngster has made 10 appearances for parent club Preston North End over a three and a half year spell but has found opportunities at Deepdale hard to come by and has had further loan spells at Tranmere Rovers and Southport since his successful spell at York City.

Davies will be permitted to play in the FA Cup for Newport County and is therefore eligible for this weekend’s FA Cup Third Round tie against Blackburn Rovers at Rodney Parade.
