Rotherham sign international defender

Rotherham United have signed Tunisian international defender Aimen Belaid from Levski Sofia, the club has confirmed.

The Paris born defender made his name in Bulgaria and played over 50 times for Sofia.

The 27 year old has signed on a free transfer on a two and a half year deal and can also play in midfield.

He made his Tunisia debut in 2012 and has played in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and France.

He could make his debut in Rotherham’s FA Cup Third Round tie at home to Yorkshire rivals Leeds on Saturday.

Rotherham boss Neil Redfearn told the clubs website:

“He will add to some really strong competition for the first-team and he is someone who comes in at a time when we need strengthening.”

“He has played international football so he has appeared at the highest level.
“His game management and temperament is going to be good, you don’t become an international footballer if you cannot handle that environment.
“From our point of view he is someone who is more than capable of going in and making an impact straight away.”
He is Rotherhams second January signing after Shay Facey signed on loan from Manchester City.
The Millers are in a relegation battle in the Sky Bet Championship and are a place above the drop zone on goal difference after 25 games.
