Reading are targeting Peterborough United star Conor Washington in a £3m deal, according to Mail Online.

According to the paper, Reading are in talks over a £3m deal for Washington and the 23 year old sat out training on Thursday as talks progressed.

The striker, signed from Newport County in 2014, has been impressive this campaign and bagged 14 goals for Peterborough, as they mount a charge up the League One table.

He was watched by scouts from QPR in Posh’ victory at Sheffield United last Saturday, whilst Wolves and Birmingham have both been touted with an interest in the forward.

Reading are searching for a replacement for Nick Blackman, who signed for high flying Derby for a fee in the region of £2m.

The Royals also accepted an offer for him from Sheffield Wednesday, but Derby hijacked the deal and Blackman chose to sign for them instead.

Blackman had been Readings top scorer so far this season and that is why The Royals are so keen to replace him.

However, fans may not have to wait long, as their move for Posh star Washington gathers pace.

The striker has 32 goals in 82 matches for Peterborough, including 12 in his last 13 league games.

Reading started the season very well but their form has tailed off and they currently lie 12th in the Sky Bet Championship, after 25 games.
