Sheffield Wednesday: Bannan signs new Owls deal

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan, once of Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, has signed a new three-and-a-half deal at Hillsborough according to Sky Sports Transfer Centre at 20:24.

Just before the ‘Transfer Centre’ announcement, Sky Sports published a story that intimated that this was to come to be.

26-year-old Scot Bannan, signed an initial one-year deal with the Owls on August 31, 2015 after failing to hold down a regular place in Palace’s Premier League set-up, opting instead to drop down a division with Wednesday.  Since signing for the South Yorkshire side, Bannan played a pivotal role in the club’s push up the Championship table and towards a play-off position, playing 18 games with one goal scored and an assist provided.

The 23-cap Scotland midfielder has recently been in talks over extending his deal with Wednesday and Sky sources understand he has “now agreed a deal that will keep him at the club until 2019.”

Sheffield Wednesday currently find themselves in seventh place, just two points behind Ipswich Town who occupy the last Championship play-off place.
