Port Vale on the look out for striker following Ikpeazu exit

Port Vale Manager Rob Page is on the look out for a new striker during the January transfer window, according to The Stoke Sentinel.

The Vale boss recently made the decision not to extend the loan deal of Watford striker Uche Ikpeazu into the new year leaving The Valiants desparately short of options in attack.

The 20 year old joined Vale on a six month loan deal in July and scored 6 goals in 27 appearances for the Vale Park club. The Harrow born striker has gained plenty of League 1 experience to date after having similar loan spells at Crewe Alexandra and Doncaster Rovers in previous seasons.

Port Vale had to endure budget cuts in the summer as a result of dwindling crowds at Vale Park but Manager Rob Page has coped well in the circumstances with the club currently sat in mid table.

As a result of Ikpeazu’s return to Watford, Ajay Leitch-Smith and JJ Hooper are the only recognised strikers at Vale Park. The club do not expect to announce any new signings before Saturday’s trip to Blackpool but a striker remains The Valiants’ top priority in the transfer window with Manager Rob Page going on record to summarise that a quality striker would complete his squad.

Vale are expected to field Ajay Leitch-Smith as a lone striker in a 4-5-1 formation at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.
