Pep Guardiola almost signed for League One club Wigan Athletic around ten years ago when they were competing in the Premier League, according to The Express.
Wigan Athletic made a move for Pep in 2005 when he was still playing, but the transfer didn’t come off for the now League One club.
The former defensive midfielder had just left Al-Ahli in Qatar where he was one of the league’s best players and held talks about a move to Wigan. Then Wigan manager, Paul Jewell, said of the transfer move at the time:
“I thought it was going to happen, he sounded very keen. But for some reason it’s gone quiet.
“I think agents have become involved somewhere along the line, as tends to happen, and now the ball is in his court. I’m not going to chase it.
“I’ve more important things on my mind. We’ve made him an offer, and if he wants to take it, then great. If he doesn’t, then I am not going to drive myself mad about it.”
After his success managing Barcelona, Guardiola recently announced that he will be leaving current club Bayern Munich at the end of the season. The manager also confirmed that he wants his next move to be to a Premier League club.
