Reading look into prospect of signing former defender

Alex Pearce is being linked with a move back on loan to Reading from Derby County according to the Derby Telegraph. The centre back has only played once this season, that coming against Portsmouth in the Capital One Cup First Round.

The 27-year-old moved to the iPro Stadium in June 2015, signing a three-year contract following the expiration of his Reading contract. With Richard Keogh and Jason Shackell seemingly immovable as the first-choice centre back pairing, Pearce has looked into the prospect of leaving the club to gain more first-team football. The Republic of Ireland international is desperate to play in order to try and win a place in the squad for Euro 2016. Head Coach Paul Clement says that he could grant his wish,

“Alex has been frustrated.

That is something we are going to have to decide (potentially leaving on loan) together during this month, myself and him, and what the best thing is for him in order to play some games and have the opportunity to go to the Euros next summer.”

Reading aren’t said to be the only Championship club who are interested in signing him on loan, however a return to his former club would probably be too good for him to turn down. With Paul McShane injured and Anton Ferdinand having his own fitness problems, the Madejski Stadium could be a good place for him to play more frequent football.
