Fletcher, 20, is very highly rated at Manchester United and has come up through the ranks, scoring goals at Under-16, Under-18 and now Under-21 level.
The striker scored nine goals in his opening ten league games for the Under-18 team and flourished in this role as a key member of the team after James Wilson was promoted to the Under-21 team.
Fletcher can play as a target man but also has a neat touch. It is understood that the player is working particularly hard on his aerial threat and acceleration to improve his already good goal-scoring record in Manchester United colours.
Signing Fletcher could provide a big boost for Barnsley who could do with a spark and some more goals at the moment in order to move above 17th place in the League One table.
