As we go into the second half of a thrilling Championship season, The72 looks at the division’s front runners as I predict the 3 sides who I believe will go on to gain promotion to the Premier League.

Middlesbrough (Champions)

Middlesbrough have had an excellent season under Aitor Karanka and have banished all memories of last season’s agonising Play Off Final defeat to Norwich City. Boro have bucked the trend this season winning at a number of fellow Championship clubs where they have previously struggled such as Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday. Their form at The Riverside has been exceptional winning 10 of their 13 home matches. Defensively they have only been breached 12 times this season and their resilience will secure the title.

Hull City (Runners Up)

Steve Bruce has a squad of quality players at his disposal at Hull City and may have enough to beat Derby County to second spot. The Tigers are excellent at home although they will be looking to improve their form away from The KC Stadium having already lost 5 matches on the road. Striker Abel Hernandez has finally got his Hull City career up and running and can score 20 goals for the club. Bruce’s managerial experience could be key to the club securing automatic promotion.

Sheffield Wednesday (Play Offs)

For the first time in years, Wednesday fans have had something to get excited about with the club being in the Play Off mix. Hillsborough is finally a fortress for The Owls with the club having tasted defeat on home soil just once this season. The goalscoring form of Fernando Forestieri has been a huge bonus for the club. Wednesday are being linked with a whole host of players in the transfer window and with Manager Carlos Carvalhal set to receive the financial backing of the Board the club could add that bit extra quality to the squad to earn a return to the Premier League.
