Birmingham end interest in Bolton’s Zach Clough

Birmingham City are no longer in the running to sign Zach Clough from Bolton Wanderers according to The Bolton News. Huddersfield Town, Sheffield Wednesday and Reading are still amongst those who has declared an interest, but he certainly won’t be heading to Gary Rowett’s men.

The 20-year-old forward has been the subject of Premier League interest in recent times, most notably from Everton and Watford. However considering Bolton’s difficult financial situation, several Championship clubs now feel as though they cannot be priced out of a move for the youngster.

It is said that Birmingham have simply pulled out of any potential deal and will now focus their attentions elsewhere in terms of recruitment this January.

A £2million tax bill is due on January 18 by Bolton Wanderers and it had been feared that players will need to be sold in order to pay off that debt. However it is believed that negotiations with one particular party interested in buying the football club means that players may not necessarily need to be sold. Josh Vela is another who has attracted interest from Cardiff City, but neither he or Clough are considered big earners at the club, and don’t need to be moved on as quickly as others perhaps would.

There are other players in the Bolton squad who are in talks to potentially leave or have attracted interest. Dean Moxey and Dorian Dervite are two of those, whilst Mark Davies is one of the higher paid players and his future could also be in doubt.
