Bolton’s prized asset attracting Championship interest

Birmingham City are set to make a move for Bolton Wanderers forward Zach Clough according to the Mirror. Reading and Sheffield Wednesday are also said to be interested in the talented youngster.

With Bolton in a desperate financial situation, there had been talk that players may need to be sold in order to keep the club running for the rest of the season. The 20-year-old is certainly one of the clubs more prized assets in terms of player and he would receive plenty of interest should he become available.

Birmingham look like being the first club to test Bolton’s resolve in the form of a £750,000 bid. With Gary Rowett having additional funds following Demarai Gray’s £3.75million move to Leicester City yesterday, he is desperate to fill that void and bolster his offensive options at St Andrews.

Reading appear to be in a similar boat after Nick Blackman was sold to Derby County, in a move which was officially confirmed this morning. Sheffield Wednesday are also set to be big players in January and it is no surprise to see their name linked to Clough as well.

With Bolton rooted to the bottom of the Championship and the obvious financial troubles they are encountered, they could well be forced to part way with Clough and perhaps other players. Josh Vela is another who has attracted interest, with Cardiff City amongst his admirers. Clough has recently returned to first-team action following a long-term injury problem, but is now back at full fitness and has impressed in the last few weeks.
