Birmingham Mail are reporting that Championship play-off chasers Birmingham City have taken defender Felix Burmeister on trial. The centre back plays for Arminia Bielefeld in Bundesliga.2, and his contract expires at the end of the season.
It is believed that Blues boss Gary Rowett is particularly interested in bolstering his options defensively. They lack cover on the left-side especially and the 25-year-old could well offer his capabilities in that department.
Bielefeld are currently positioned 12th in the 18 league division but Burmeister has only featured on three occasions this season. Last season was much more productive when appearing on 24 occasions in 3.Liga, as Bielefeld won promotion to the second tier of German football.
Rowett is said to be scouring the overseas market with great interest, with particular focus on the German and Dutch divisions. Earlier in the season Birmingham handed out a trial Pene Mlapa.
The ex-Burton boss is desperately trying to improve his squad and provide the team with a boost, especially after the departure of star-man Demarai Gray to Premier League high-flyers Leicester City. Youngster Reece Brown is another that is closing in on a potential exit after he was handed a trial of his own with Slaven Bilic’s West Ham United.
