QPR youngster joins Cambridge United on loan deal

Cambridge United have signed QPR youngster Darnell Furlong on a one month loan deal, according to Cambridge News.

The 20 year old right back is a product of QPR’s youth academy and spent a short loan spell on loan at League Two promotion chasers Northampton Town earlier this season making 11 appearances for The Cobblers.

Furlong is highly rated at Loftus Road and has made 4 senior career appearances for The Hoops to date, 3 of which were made during the club’s recent spell in the Premier League.

The right back is the son of former Rangers fans favourite Paul Furlong who is currently an academy coach at the West London club.

It is understood that Darnell Furlong is being mentored by experienced veteran defender Clint Hill at Loftus Road who is helping the youngster develop while Rio Ferdinand and Joey Barton have also both provided the youngster with important help and advice in the past.

Furlong has his fair share of admirers with the likes of Hull City, Sunderland, Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion all rumoured to have shown an interest in the right back within the last 12 months.

The youngster is contracted to QPR until summer 2017 after signing a new two year deal at Loftus Road in May 2015.
