Three clubs join West Ham in race for Leeds youngster

Premier League clubs Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Norwich City have all joined the race to sign Leeds United youngster Sam Byram, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 22-year-old is out of contract in the summer and is yet to sign any new deal offered to him by his current club.

West Ham were reportedly in line to sign the right-back/right midfielder, but now Palace, Leicester and Norwich are all looking to rival this bid and secure his signature in the January transfer window.

In his time at Leeds United, Byram has established himself as a first team regular since making his debut in 2012. In total, he has made 140 appearances for the Whites, scoring 10 and assisting 12.

Leeds value Byram at £8 million and will be looking to sell him for that figure, but if the player was to leave for free at the end of the season, the Whites would be due compensation as he is under 24 years of age. This compensation fee is believed to be less than the current valuation.

Despite the off-the-pitch contract talk, Byram has continued to feature in Steve Evans’ Leeds United side and has found the net in recent weeks in the games against Wolves and Nottingham Forest.
