Rotherham agree loan deal for Man City youngster

Championship side Rotherham United have agreed a loan deal to sign Manchester City youngster Shay Facey, the club have announced.

The 20-year-old joins the Millers on-loan until the end of the season. This is the second player that Rotherham have taken on-loan from Manchester City this season with Brandon Barker joining at the end of the emergency loan window.

Facey enjoyed a spell out on-loan at New York City FC in the MLS, where he made 23 appearances before returning to England.

Despite not making any first team appearances for Manchester City, he is a regular for their youth sides having made 28 appearances in the under-21 Premier League.

Speaking about the signing with the club’s official website, Rotherham boss Neil Redfearn said “Shay is an outstanding young talent.

“He is a utility defender, he’s 20-years-old and he can play at right-back or centre-back. He has blistering pace, he is very aggressive and he can deal with the football.

“He is someone that Manchester City rate really highly, he has already been out and played some loan games in America, so he has come back over here and he is looking to gain some experience in this country.

“For us to have the links with the Manchester City’s of this world is great.

“They obviously feel that their lads are coming into a good environment for them, which is credit to us and the club, so it is a great signing for us.”
