Martin Allen’s Barnet travel to promotion chasing Northampton Town for their first fixture of the New Year at Sixfields Stadium.

Last year’s Conference champions have been in better form in recent weeks, keeping them two points clear of local rivals Stevenage. However, the Bees threw away a lead in their last outing against Cambridge United, after top scorer John Akinde opened the scoring, before conceding two quick goals to lose 2-1.

Despite this, boss Martin Allen is unlikely to make any changes after some improved performances in recent weeks, that have seen them pull 12 points clear of the relegation zone in League 2.

Luke Gambin missed Monday’s game after an illness, and will be pushing for a recall providing he is fit.

The Cobblers, who are in  sterling form after picking up 8 wins in their last 9 games, could make some changes for Saturday’s game, with former Barnet striker Ricky Holmes looking to get a start after impressing boss Chris Wilder after setting up the winner versus Accrington on Monday.

Marc Richards will be looking to add to his tally of goals this season, after his goal ended Accrington Stanley’s seven game unbeaten run.

Northampton currently sit in second place, with just three points separating the Cobblers and current leaders Plymouth Argyle.
