Wolves call an early Holt to Grant loan

With the festive fixtures out of the way, and with no games until early January, Wolverhampton Wanderers have decided to send on-loan Wigan forward Grant Holt back to the DW Stadium early, according to a report in the Express and Star.

Holt’s return to the DW, confirmed on Wigan’s official website, sees the 34-year-old Holt return to the club to continue his push for a first team spot with the Lactics. Holt has made only five appearances for Wigan this season (139 minutes) and has yet to score this term.

Explaining his decision to send Holt back to Wigan early, Wolves boss Kenny Jackett told the Express and Star, “His loan is up this week and I’ve said to him that we won’t be extending it. So for us now we thank him for what he’s done. He’s come in at a busy time when we’ve needed cover for our forward players and then I was deciding in terms of my forward options to go with Adam Le Fondre and Bjorn Sigurdarson.”

Speaking of Holt’s return to the Lactics, manager Gary Caldwell said, “It will be good to have an experienced forward like Grant back with us. The competition is intense for our forward positions, and he will only add to that. Grant’s kept himself fit during his time with Wolves, so he’ll be ready to compete for a place.”

Wigan face upcoming games against Shrewsbury (A) and Gillingham (H) during early January, it will be these games that Holt will be targeting as he aims for a spot in the first team squad.
