Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka weighing up move for Jordan Rhodes

Middlesbrough Manager Aitor Karanka is understood to be considering another move for Blackburn Rovers hot shot Jordan Rhodes according to The Northern Echo.

Rhodes is one of the hottest properties in The Championship and will undoubtably be subject to transfer interest in January with Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City the most likely clubs to bid for his services.

Middlesbrough submitted a bid worth up to £13 million for Rhodes in the summer but Blackburn Rovers’ owners Venkys rejected the offer. The striker was willing to move to The Riverside and handed in a transfer request but that was also rejected by the Indian owners. Rovers were unwilling to sell their prized asset partly due to the fact that fellow striker Rudy Gestede had already been sold to Aston Villa leaving the club lacking options in attack.

The 25 year old striker has been in good form since returning from injury and has scored 9 goals so far this season. Rhodes was the club’s top scorer with 21 goals last season. Rovers started the season poorly but their return to form has mirrored their star man’s return to the side.

Boro boss Karanka continues to be an admirer of Rhodes but owners Venkys’ commitment to investing in the squad and supporting new Manager Paul Lambert may prove a stumbling block in signing the striker.
