Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon looking to unearth a gem

Shrewsbury Town Manager Micky Mellon is aiming to unearth another lower league gem during next month’s transfer window. The budget continues to be tight at New Meadow this season with the club sat in 19th place in the League 1 table just 2 points above the drop zone.

Mellon has highlighted budget signings Abu Agogo and Junior Brown as proof that there are bargains to be had in the lower divisions with both players making a substantial impact on the pitch for The Shrews this season. Agogo and Brown both previously played for unfashionable League 2 clubs Dagenham & Redbridge and Mansfield Town before their moves to Shropshire.

The Scot may be focussing on signing a new winger in the transfer window as on loan Crystal Palace winger Sully Kaikai recently returned to Selhurst Park with injury.

Mellon must also make a decision on whether to extend the deals of defenders Zak Whitbread and Anthony Gerrard. Both players joined The Shrews on short term deals which are set to expire in January.

Mellon has a history of getting the best out of players having played in big part in the rise of striker Jamie Vardy at previous club Fleetwood Town and is looking to maintain his proud recruitment record again in January.
