Gillingham faced Swindon Town at The County Ground in a League 1 fixture yesterday but it wasn’t just The Robins who provided Gillingham with their festive opposition.

The Gills won the match 3-1 with goals from Bradley Dack, Jake Hessenthaler and Ryan Jackson after Jon Obika had opened the scoring for Martin Ling’s improving Swindon Town. The home side had Raphael Branco dismissed late on for a second bookable offence.

There was plenty of goals and excitement on show at the County Ground but the biggest cheer of the afternoon was no doubt kept for an unexpected pitch invader.

The pitch invader was not of the usual human mould. The pitch invader was actually a fox which dashed through the penalty area during a seasonal moment of comedy in Wiltshire.

The Gills’ victory at The County Ground ensured that the club’s push for automatic promotion continued. Manager Justin Edinburgh has worked wonders at Preistfield Stadium since joining the club from Newport County towards the end of last season.

Last season’s beaten League 1 Play Off Finalists Swindon Town have struggled to get going this season, seemingly suffering from a massive Play Off hangover but the appointment of Manager Martin Ling has seen a change in fortunes for the club and brighter times could be on the horizon for The Robins.
