Leyton Orient goal machine Jay Simpson is expected to be hot property in next month’s transfer window with a number of Championship clubs chasing his signature.

The 27-year-old is a former Arsenal trainee and is the League Two top goalscorer to date in a season which has seen the pacey Enfield-born striker hit 16 league goals before Christmas, at the rate of a goal per 114 minutes. In all his games across the English divisions, Simpson has played 274 games, scoring 65 goals and laying on 18 assists.

It is understood that Simpson’s excellent run of form has impressed a number of southern based Championship clubs with Fulham, Brentford, Ipswich Town and MK Dons all showing an interest in the striker’s goalscoring feats this season.

Simpson was released by Hull City at the end of the 2012/13 season and joined The O’s in July 2014 after a short spell in Thailand, where he played for Buriram United. The striker is able to play as an out-and-out striker but can also be deployed out wide as he possesses plenty of pace, power and trickery to cause nightmares for the opposition defence.

Despite plenty of transfer speculation surrounding Simpson, the hot-shot insists that he is happy with life in East London and is not looking for an immediate move away from Brisbane Road however Leyton Orient’s resistance could be tested should they receive a substantial transfer bid from a higher division club.
