Ipswich Town striker set for further spell on the sidelines

Ipswich Town’s promotion hopes have suffered a blow with news that striker David McGoldrick faces a further 3 months on the sidelines.

The 28 year old Republic of Ireland international joined The Tractor Boys in July 2013 following a successful loan stint at Portman Road and scored 16 goals in 34 appearances in an impressive first full season in Suffolk.

McGoldrick’s progress at Ipswich Town has hit the buffers over the past 18 months with the striker making just 29 appearances for the club during a period which has seen the Town fans favourite become a regular in the Portman Road treatment room after sustaining a number of knee and thigh injuries.

McGoldrick’s latest injury set back was sustained on the training ground when he back heeled a ball awkwardly and pulled a hamstring.

Prior to injury, the striker was one of the most in demand attacking players in the Championship with Leicester City reportedly bidding a £7 million sum for his services during the 2013/2014 season.

After starting his career as a youngster at Notts County, McGoldrick has become one of football’s journeymen having represented no less than 8 clubs during a 10 year career in which he has made 299 career appearances scoring 77 goals.

The latest injury set back could force Ipswich Town Manager Mick McCarthy into the transfer market next month to recruit more fire power.
