Forest, Forest plot move for former England keeper

Forest plot move for former England keeper

Nottingham Forest are keen on a move for free agent Paul Robinson, according to The Sun.

The 36-year old has been without a club since leaving Blackburn at the end of the last campaign. Despite his age, he remains eager to carry on playing football.

There have been a number of sides that have considered moves for the ex-England keeper over the past few months and Forest are the latest to express an interest, with current boss Dougie Freedman speaking to the player’s agent about a move and even letting him train with them.

If talks go well, a deal could be done as soon as the January transfer window opens its doors.

Robinson has had a long  career in the top tiers of English football. He started off at Leeds, where he played close to 100 times in a six-year period.

He then had arguably the best time of his career at Tottenham. He played over 100 times for Spurs and even managed to bag a goal! During this time, he also played for England and was the national side’s number one shot-stopper for a large period of time and was England’s keeper throughout the 2006 World Cup.

His last club was Blackburn, where he spent seven years of his career and played nearly 200 times.

He has a wealth of experience and could still provide reliable service in goal and for that reason, Dougie Freedman is considering a move for him. Dorus De Vries would remain Forests’ number one but Robinson would be decent cover for the keeper if he was to become injured or suspended.

Forest are also keen to do business because he would cost absolutely nothing.
