Carvalhal squashes Swansea link and Adebayor move

Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal has rubbished talk that Emmanuel Adebayor is set to join the club. The Portuguese boss confirmed to The Sheffield Star that he has never discussed the possibility of the former Arsenal striker moving to Hillsborough.

Carvalhal, who also squashed speculation that he is to become the next manager of Premier League side Swansea City, didn’t completely rule out the prospect of Adebayor moving to the club but at the same time hinted it is a deal which is a non-starter,

“It is a rumour. I won’t comment on rumours today or tomorrow.

I have never heard about the possibility of Adebayor coming here. He is a fantastic player but we have never talked about this.”

31-year-old Adebayor has been without a club since being released by Spurs in September of this year. He has featured for a string of high-profile clubs throughout his career including Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City and Monaco.

The forward would certainly bring a wealth of experience and is closing in on 400 career club appearances. He is just shy of 150 career club goals as well. However it would appear that he isn’t expected to be moving to Sheffield or playing his football in the blue and white strips any time soon.

Regarding the Swansea link, Carvalhal insists he is fully focused on his job with the Owls and doesn’t plan on leaving any time soon,

“These are rumours. I can say nothing more than this.

I am trying to help Sheffield Wednesday play better and better. We have a very important game on Saturday against Birmingham.

I am a professional. I don’t talk about rumours.”

Sheffield Wednesday face Birmingham City on Saturday, which is then quickly followed by a trip to league leaders Middlesbrough and then another away game to the Capital to face Fulham at Craven Cottage.
