Matty Taylor – Bristol Rovers answer to Jamie Vardy

Whilst former non league graduate Jamie Vardy continues to break all records in Leicester City’s fascinating Premier League season many clubs are no doubt scouring lower league and non league clubs for the next multi-million pound footballer.

In League 2, one man in particular is warming to the task of league football as his season continues to reach new heights.

As a 19 year old, Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor was released by Oxford United and found himself playing in the Southern League South and West Division for North Leigh.

After a successful spell at Conference club Forest Green Rovers, Bristol Rovers’ Manager Darrell Clarke came calling and the 25 year old has never looked back.

Taylor helped fire The Pirates to promotion last season as he netted 20 goals in his first season at The Memorial Stadium.

The striker initially found the step up to League 2 football tough but Taylor has now found his feet in the new division and has already notched 14 goals for Rovers this season including a superb hat trick against promotion chasing Wycombe Wanderers.

Taylor’s prolific goalscoring record and confident attitude on the pitch has been likened to Jamie Vardy who himself worked his way up the football pyramid through non league into The Football League and it will be fascinating to see whether Taylor’s own career can also escalate to a higher level.
