Forest full back set for lengthy spell on sidelines

Nottingham Forest left back Dani Pinillos is set to miss the rest of the season after he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury, revealed by Nottingham Post. He suffered the injury with twenty minutes remaining of the recent home victory over MK Dons.

The 23-year-old has been one of the brightest performers for Dougie Freedman’s men this season, cementing the left back berth as his own. The Spaniard featured for Cordoba in La Liga last season, but despite suffering relegation, he earned himself a trial at the City Ground and quickly won himself a two-year contract.

It is the latest serious injury to significantly hit Freedman’s squad. The likes of Britt Assombalonga, Matty Fryatt, Kyle Ebecilio, Chris Cohen and Andy Reid haven’t even kicked a ball this season, all because of serious injuries. Thankfully the likes of Robert Tesche and Michael Mancienne have made returns, but these issues has made it difficult for the team to build up any sustained momentum this season. Recent form is certainly improving however, but the loss of Pinillos is a big blow.

It would appear logical to simply bring Danny Fox into the team in his place, especially considering his experience at this level and the fact he is an out-and-out left back. However he has been out of favour for some time, especially after a woeful display against Bristol City earlier this season. Therefore it is perhaps more likely that Eric Lichaj will switch from right back to left back, although Cohen is closing in on a return to action as well.

There is the chance that the full back could return to action before the end of the season, but the club medical staff won’t want to rush him back or take any unnecessary risks with his recovery.
