Further injury woes plague Forest midfielder

Veteran Nottingham Forest midfielder Andy Reid has had yet another injury set back, with the 33-year-old revealing to the Nottingham Post he may need to have an operation in the New Year.

Reid, who joined Nottingham Forest in 2011, has not played a game for the senior side since being taken off with a serious knee injury during a clash with local rivals Derby on 14th September 2014. Already having spent over a year out of action, Reid spoke to the Nottingham Post about what comes next in his road to recovery.

“I have to go over to America and speak to a surgeon just after Christmas,” Reid said.

“I’m possibly going to need another operation, which would mean being out for the foreseeable future.

“But I am hoping that it won’t be too long. After New Year, once I have the operation, I can start looking to get my rehab done and then look to come back.”

Reid, a fan favourite at the City Ground, would certainly bolster a faltering Forest side if he can return before the end of the season, as The Reds are languishing in 15th place, six points away from a playoff place.

Reid upon return will be given a chance to succeed by manager Dougie Freedman, who when also speaking to the Nottingham Post detailed his plans for Reid.

“I have known Andy since he was a teenager. I have a bit of a soft spot for him. But he is also a very good player. This is Andy Reid and he has done very well for this club – I will never forget that.

“I think it is only right that we give him the benefit of the doubt; that we give him as much time as we physically can,”

With Reid likely out until February at least, Forest will have to continue to find ways to cope without the man who’s made over 100 appearances for them since making the switch from Sunderland in 2011.
