Three Championship clubs chase Posh striker

Birmingham, Cardiff and Wolves are all keen on signing in-form Peterborough striker Conor Washington, according to the Daily Mail.

Having scored 11 goals this season, and 9 in his last 10 matches, Conor Washington is one of the most highly sought-after strikers in the Football League. A vital part of Peterborough’s lethal attacking arsenal, The Posh will likely command a hefty fee if they are indeed to part ways with the 23-year-old.

Peterborough’s track record of producing free-scoring strikers, including Dwight Gayle, Lee Tomlin and Craig-Mackail Smith means that multiple clubs will likely be keeping tabs on the youngster Washington, who signed with Peterborough in a £500,000 deal with Newport County in 2014.

Wolves are currently without former Wigan striker Nouha Dicko, who suffered a potential season-ending knee injury on 31st August and could see Washington as a potential replacement.

Gary Rowett’s Birmingham are without star striker Clayton Donaldson, and loanee James Vaughan’s deal from Huddersfield is set to expire on 2nd January, meaning Washington could fill in a significant gap in the club’s striking corps.

Cardiff City are firmly in the market for a striker, having already made a bid for Dutch attacker Wout Weghorst. If the deal for the Dutchman doesn’t come through, the Welsh club may well turn their attention to Washington.

As the January transfer window closes in, Peterborough will be desperate to keep hold of their star players, especially with midfielder Jermaine Anderson being confirmed as out for the season with a knee injury suffered in an FA Cup second round tie with Luton.
