Former Leicester City and Liverpool player turned pundit Stan Collymore has slammed Leeds owner Massimo Cellino and has called for changes in the ownership laws of the Football League.
Speaking in his latest column for betting company Boyle Sports, Collymore has challenged the Football League to look at the laws of ownership and create a better system to unable clubs such as Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday to challenge for top-flight status once again.
Collymore wrote; “The league needs to have strict ownership criteria and making owning a big club not the preserve of egotistical billionaires who practice economics of boom and bust.
“Let’s make the term ‘fit for purpose’ actually mean something. That way they can run properly, spend properly, safe from the Cellinos of this world.”
Collymore also said the top-flight needs clubs like Leeds and the Sheffield clubs not only to add spice to the league but also to maintain “a competitive balance.”
Leeds United are currently 18th in the SkyBet Championship and have struggled for consistency so far this season.
