Manchester City recall youngster from Rotherham loan

Premier League giants Manchester City have recalled youngster Brandon Barker from his loan spell at Rotherham United, talkSPORT reports.

The 19 year old, who is an England Under 20 international is said to be highly rated at the Etihad Stadium and put pen to paper on a professional deal in July 2014.

He signed on loan for Championship strugglers Rotherham on November 5 and scored two days later on his debt for the South Yorkshire side.

The young winger made three more substitute appearances for The Millers and was set to stay at Rotherham until January 17.

However, Manchester City have now confirmed that they have recalled him from his loan spell, more than a month early.

This is presumably down to a lack of first team football as despite bagging a goal on his debut, Barker has played only 19 minutes since.

Rotherham released the following statement on the matter:

Rotherham United can now confirm the paperwork has landed for Brandon Barker’s recall by parent club Manchester City.
Barker scored once in four appearances for the Millers.
The club would like to thank Brandon for his efforts whilst at AESSEAL New York Stadium and wish him well for the future.”
Barker is highly rated by City and is an England Under 20 international. He has been with the club since the age of eight, but is yet to make a first team appearance for The Sky Blues.
Rotherham will now be focused on getting a positive result out of tonights trip to West Yorkshire to face Huddersfield Town.
They have struggled this season and currently lie 23rd in the second tier, just one place above rock bottom Bolton Wanderers.
