Bolton have plans to avoid administration

Bolton Wanderers have plans to try to avoid administration, Neil Lennon has told the BBC.

The club, who currently lie bottom of The Championship, have a debt of £172.9m and owe around £600,000 in unpaid taxes.

Trevor Birch, Bolton’s newly appointed financial advisor is looking for buyers, and there is said to be four interested parties.

If Bolton entered administration it would mean a 12 point deduction, which Lennon admits would result in them being a League One club next season.

44 year old Lennon said “I think Trevor has a few plans in place to avoid that scenario.”

“He’s confident he can avoid that because that would mean we’d be a League One team and we’d just be fulfilling fixtures for the rest of the season.”

Two of the interested parties involve ex Wanderers players, with one led by Dean Holdsworth.

Another has involvement from former Trotters midfielder Stelios Giannakopoulos.

Bolton have endured a torrid start to the season on the pitch as well and lie rock bottom of the second tier in 24th place, four points from safety.
