Jackett coy over striker’s future

After recent rumours linking Benik Afobe with a Premier League move in January, Wolves manager Kenny Jackett has remained coy about the striker’s future on the club’s official website.

22-year-old Afobe has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs including Newcastle United and Norwich City but Jackett is unconcerned by the speculation, as he feels any interest will prove that his striker is in good form.

“It’ll be interesting, it was a tough period in pre-season where there was a lot of speculation about him and conversations. But if there is speculation again it’ll mean things are going right and he’s scoring and playing well. We need to get him to that stage. He’s got one goal in his last eight and has the ability to score a lot of goals in the Championship.”

Afobe has suffered his most disappointing spell as a Wolves player to date over recent weeks, and was replaced by Adam Le Fondre in Wolves’ starting line-up for their most recent game against Rotherham United.

The former Arsenal man’s struggles could put Premier League clubs off in the new year, but his overall record still remains impressive with 20 goals in 40 Championship appearances for Wolves, and it would be a big blow to their promotion hopes if the striker were to leave.
