Huddersfield’s Whitehead to miss up to two months

Huddersfield Town midfield dynamo Dean Whitehead has revealed on Twitter that he will be out of action for up to eight weeks because of a knee injury. He was forced off in the recent victory at Birmingham City, with a scan revealing the severity of the damage.

The 33-year-old has featured in 18 Championship matches so far this season for the Terriers, but could be set to miss up to nine games, including the traditionally hectic Christmas period. With recently appointed head coach David Wagner not having too many experienced heads in his squad, he’ll certainly miss the impact of the former Sunderland and Stoke City central midfielder.

It is expected to be a straight battle between Jonathan Hogg and Kyle Dempsey regarding who will take over the vacant position left in the team, starting with this weekend’s home clash against Bristol City at John Smith’s Stadium.

He moved to the club over the summer after spending two seasons up in Teesside with Middlesbrough, where he featured in the Championship Play-Off Final defeat to Norwich City at Wembley in May.

The Huddersfield number four has impressed at the heart of the midfield so far this season, especially in recent weeks under the management of German Wagner. There is every chance that the club could look to make a temporary move once the January transfer window reopens, to fill the void left by their influential performer.
