Evans praises striker’s Hull performance

Leeds United head coach Steve Evans was pleased with the performance of striker Chris Wood in his side’s victory over Hull City on Saturday, according to Vital Football.

Kiwi-international Wood opened the scoring for Leeds in their 2-1 win and the ex-West Brom frontman worked hard all afternoon in a solo role in attack and Leeds United head coach Evans thought the big target man was exceptional.

“When you have worked for two or three days on midfield players driving at people and releasing the wide player and then strikers getting across their man, from a coaching perspective, it is great when it works,” Evans said following the win.

“Importantly, it was great for Chris Wood. He has had his knockers in certain weeks but you could see what the goal meant to the big man. I thought Chris was exceptional and for me, he was the man of the match. He brought players into the game at every opportunity, he was a real threat and it will be one of the most difficult days for a very good central defensive partnership at Hull City.”

His goal against Hull was the 23-year-old’s seventh for the Elland Road club since his big money, reported £3m move from Leicester City in the summer.
