A look ahead to Brighton v Charlton

For the second time in just four seasons, the Albion face Charlton Athletic on December 5th (this Saturday). Here is a look ahead to this fixture.

The clash between table-toppers Brighton, and Charlton at the Amex this Saturday will be a chance for Chris Hughton’s side to extend their unbeaten run in the league to 19 games. It is a different story for Charlton however, who have only won 2 of their last 5 games, the other 3 ending in defeats, and will be looking to pick themselves up from the opposite end of the table.

The Opposition

Saturday’s game promises to be a tough one for Charlton, but aside from proceedings on the pitch, the game at the Amex is also a special landmark for the Addicks, as they celebrate their 13 year anniversary from when they finally moved back into the Valley, after being in a similar ‘homeless’ situation to that of Brighton all those years ago. On the pitch however, I feel that interim manager Karel Fraeye will be in for a very tough time come 3pm on Saturday. Charlton, who have struggled to get going, sit 21st in the championship standings, winning just 3 out of the 18 games they’ve played this season and will be looking to change this at the Amex. All this being said though, they pulled off a 1-0 victory away from home at Birmingham earlier on this season, proving that they shouldn’t be under-estimated by the Seagulls, who beat Birmingham 2-1 at the Amex last weekend.

The Albion

Brighton have suffered a double injury set back this week, after stand-in left back Liam Rosenior received confirmation of his injury suffered in the game against Birmingham, which has ruled him out until the New Year. Kazenga LuaLua, who had surgery on his groin injury has unfortunately increased his time on the sidelines for the Albion. It is by no means all doom and gloom for the Seagulls though, new additions James Wilson and Rajiv Van La Parra will almost certainly feature in Saturdays game and prove that Chris Hughton has got strength in depth in this Albion side.

Last time these 2 sides met, Brighton ran away 1-0 victors at the Valley thanks to a header from midfield maestro Rohan Ince and going into the game Brighton’s record over the last 5 games is WDWDDD, compared to Charlton’s record of LWWLLL. I am hopeful and remain confident that Brighton can inflict another ‘L’ to Charlton’s record and add another victory to this seemingly never ending run of ours, but Charlton are certainly not to be written off too early.

Predictions:

Me –  Brighton 2-0 Charlton, will hopefully be a comfortable afternoon on the south coast.

Joe – Brighton 3-0 Charlton

Tom – Brighton 3-1 Charlton
