Leeds United: Prem team “mad keen” on player

The problem that all lower league teams face, and I mean no disrespect to Leeds United with that team, is that they produce young players who are then cherry-picked by teams higher up the competitive ladder. This is true of Leeds United and Lewis Cook, according to a tweet (below) by Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay.

On the back of a report from The Mirror, that had no directly attributable sources – other than shady ‘sources at a Championship club, it apowers that Hay is saying that Premier League Bournemouth are “mad keen” on the 18-year old Leeds midfielder and, indeed, have recently “been in touch” with the Elland Road club.

With Leeds currently languishing around the Championship relegation places, and with Premier League teams like Bournemouth enjoying the cash-rich joys of the Premier League, there is always that danger that the higher tier clubs will come a-calling with their riffling chequer book pages.

Whilst his form may have dropped a little recently, Lewis Cook’s all-action displays for bother Leeds United and England last season will have no doubt caught the eye of many teams, including Bournemouth and others from the Premier League. Cook himself signed a new contract only in May this year, after a successful first campaign in the first team squad, but that commitment to Elland Road would surely be tested should the bigger clubs begin to think about firming up what is currently only tentative interest in Cook.

Should that firming of interest happen, then the Whites could very well be looking elsewhere for a new central midfield dynamo.
