Fulham have ‘no interest’ in Mark Warburton

The Daily Record is reporting that a Fulham source has revealed that the club has no interest in naming Mark Warburton as their next manager. Gary Neville, who was also linked with the role, has been named as the head coach of Spanish side Valencia.

The long-running saga to become the successor to Kit Symons at Craven Cottage has yet more meat to add to the bone. Over time, the likes of Nigel Pearson, Gary Rowett and Steve Clarke have all been seriously linked to the role, only for no more to ever materialise. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was another name mentioned, but he looks likely to take over at Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers.

Radio Station RockSport contacted Fulham to try and gather an opinion and update on the managerial situation, and this was the response that they received,

“We are reluctant to provide a spokesperson from the club for RockSport’s Talking Football Programme as we have no interest in Mark Warburton and do not wish to add to speculation.”

The former Brentford and now current Rangers managed was installed as the latest favourite to be appointed a few days ago. He still remains as the favourite, although another interesting name to appear in the betting is former Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat. This however seems to be another fairly unlikely move, considering how he departed the Black Cats earlier this season and seemed reluctant to take the job in the first place.

Peter Grant remains in caretaker charge, but he has made in firmly clear that he isn’t interested in the vacancy and wishes to return to his development role after serving as interim manager. Alan Curbishley is another name still being touted. He has made his intentions clear that he would like the job, however the club don’t appear to be keen to give him the role considering he hasn’t been a manager since his West Ham days many years ago now.

Once again, we still don’t have any idea who the next Fulham manager will be. It is undoubtedly a popular job in terms of who ideally would like to take over, but the owners are clearly chasing a specific type of candidate. On the flip side, there has to be a reason why a manager has yet to be appointed and why the job has been turned down already. Maybe the Fulham owner is an issue? The fact is, none of us really know!
