Hasselbaink to have QPR interview ‘shortly’

Burton Albion have confirmed that they have given manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink permission to speak to Queens Park Rangers about the managerial vacancy at Loftus Road. The Dutchman will be interviewed by the Championship side hierarchy over the coming days.

Ben Robinson, the chairman of Burton Albion, says that an approach has been sanctioned and that discussions will take place ‘shortly’,

“QPR have approached us asking for permission to speak to Jimmy and we have agreed to that. He will be interviewed shortly for the vacant manager’s job.”

It is therefore widely expected that Hasselbaink will soon be named as the eventual successor to Chris Ramsey, who was sacked in November and also failed to keep them in the Premier League last season.

The 43-year-old has drastically increased his stock as a football manager thanks to his exploits at Pirelli Stadium since taking over in November 2014. In the same season he managed to guide the club into the third tier of English football after winning the League Two title. In this campaign, he guided the club to their highest ever league position, when stopping the League One table. They look firmly set to mount another promotion challenge, although Hasselbaink looks set to leave despite not having an actual full football season in charge.

He looks set to leave Burton at the top of League One, thanks to a 2-1 victory against Millwall last night. The former Leeds United and Chelsea striker was quick to play down any speculation about his future when speaking to the BBC after the game yesterday, but it has been clear that QPR have been interested for a little while now. Neil Warnock is expected to remain in charge of the team for tomorrow’s game at Reading, regardless if a deal to bring Hasselbaink to the club is concluded.
