Leeds lose winger as player recalled to parent club

Premier League side Sunderland have recalled winger Will Buckley from his loan spell at Championship side Leeds United, the club have announced.

The 26-year-old made the temporary move to Elland Road at the start of October when previous head coach Uwe Rosler was looking for as many wide options as possible.

New Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has assessed his new squad and believes he needs Buckley back as cover for possible injuries to forwards Jermain Defoe and Fabio Borini.

During his time at Leeds, Buckley managed just four appearances, three of those coming off the bench, and failed to find the net or provide any assists.

Leeds were originally planning to make Buckley’s move a permanent one in January, but it has emerged that current Head Coach Steve Evans did not have the ex-Brighton winger in his plans for the future.

Whilst one player leaves another arrives, as Leeds have announced the signing of Sunderland midfielder Liam Bridcutt on a loan deal until January. The emergency loan window shuts on Thursday evening and Evans has expressed a desire to sign another goalkeeper and striker.
