Leeds starlet set for January Premier League interest

Leeds United midfielder Lewis Cook is attracting interest from three Premier League clubs according to the Express. One is prepared to present a £10million bid in January to test owner Massimo Cellino, who is still looking to sell the football club.

The 18-year-old has made the central midfield berth at Elland Road his own this season. He has also broken into the England national team at youth level, and is closing in on a potential call-up to the Under-21 side managed by Gareth Southgate.

AFC Bournemouth are a side that are very much interested in acquiring Cook as they look to boost their squad ahead of the second half of the Premier League season. Cook would very much fit into the type of player that Cherries manager Eddie Howe would love to get on board. The Premier League new-boys are set to lodge a £10million bid, although there is every indication that Leeds could and would get more than this figure.

In addition to AFC Bournemouth, it is reported that Liverpool and Stoke City would also be interested in the prospect of adding the teenager to their squad. Although Cook only signed a contract extension in the very recent past, Mark Hughes is another manager very keen on bringing more competition into his midfield. Prior to Jurgen Kloop’s appointment at Anfield, Liverpool also pondered Cook as a transfer target.

Cook has made over 50 appearances for the first-team now and it remains to be seen if Cellino will be prepared to let one of his prized assets go whilst interest is high. There is likely to be interest in January from the Premier League, but can Leeds United keep those clubs and their pockets of cash at bay? Only time will tell.
