Sherwood not approached by Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers did not approach former player Tim Sherwood about taking over at the club before they appointed Paul Lambert, according to a report.

There was speculation yesterday that Rovers had only appointed Lambert as manager after Sherwood had turned down the job, however these reports are not true.  Lambert was Blackburn’s first choice and the club were not rejected by Sherwood.

Lambert was appointed on a two-and-a-half-year deal yesterday and has been set the goal of ultimately taking Blackburn up to the Premier League.  However this task won’t be easy, with the club currently under a Football League transfer embargo due to breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

Sherwood, along with Lambert, has been mentioned in regards to the vacant managerial positions at Fulham and Queens Park Rangers.  The former Blackburn captain was sacked by Aston Villa last month after a poor start to the season with the club.
