Derby interested in Sweden international

Derby County are believed to be interested in the loan signing of Blackburn full-back Marcus Olsson, reports The Derby Telegraph via a report in The Sun.

The 27-year-old Sweden international was named Rovers Player of the Year last season and is a firm fans favourite at Ewood Park, but given Rovers’ current financial situation a move away from the club could be a distinct possibility.

Derby currently only have one fit full-back at Pride Park in 33-year-old Stephen Warnock – having seen the influential Craig Forsyth ruled out for the season with a ruptured cruciate ligament suffered against Queens Park Rangers last week. Max Lowe is still short of fitness following a hamstring injury.

Rams boss Paul Clement is believed to be a keen admirer of Olsson and has reportedly enquired about taking him on loan with a view to a permanent move in January.

However, should no deal materialise, Clement would be far from pushing the panic button.

“At the moment, we have a good squad,” Clement told the Telegraph.

“Stephen (Warnock), in the game he came on when Craig got injured, and in the next game, had his best two performances.

“Max Lowe is not far away from recovering from his hamstring injury, so we have good options in the left-back position.

“I have a very competitive squad, virtually everyone is fit with the exception of Craig and Will Hughes. So we are in good shape.”
