Former captain expresses interest in Fulham job

Lee Clark has expressed an interest in becoming the next Fulham manager according to Evening Standard. The former Whites midfielder has been out of management since resigning as Blackpool boss back in May.

The 43-year-old is now looking for his fourth managerial role since retiring from playing at the end of the 2005/06 campaign after a second spell with Newcastle United. It is believed that a new Fulham manager will be appointed this week, and Clark says he would be stupid not to declare an interest in what is a ‘special club’ to him,

“Everyone knows what I think about that place.

If you are saying, ‘Would I be interested in being manager of Fulham?’ Of course I would throw my hat in the ring. I would be absolutely delighted if that was the case. It is a special club to play for with terrific people being the scenes.”

Mike Rigg, the Fulham Chief Football Officer, is the man who was set the task of identifying and ultimately recruiting the replacement to Kit Symons. There have been many names linked to the role. It appears that ex-Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson is firmly in the race and appears to be the frontrunner.

However Clark is looking to prove himself in management after a more than forgetful time at Blackpool, where he was unable to save them from relegation to League One last season. His first gig as a manager came at Huddersfield Town and he quickly established a reputation as one of the up-and-coming managers in the English game. During that time he led them to a record-breaking 43 game unbeaten run. He endured a mixed spell with Birmingham City, but did guide them to a final day survival thanks to a 2-2 draw against Bolton Wanderers.
