Championship clubs interest in rated non-league youngster

The Kent Online reports that a number of Championship clubs are showing an interest in Ebbsfleet United’s youngster Shilow Tracey, amongst also definite interest from the Premier League.

Tracey, who has already been on trial at Tottenham Hotspurs, where the IB Times said he had a “successful trial” and this was confirmed earlier this month by Ebbsfleet’s boss Daryl McMahon who said that,

“It went OK for him, he’s probably going to go back for another trial. He was there for three days, three training sessions – he’s back playing with us now. He’s a very good player. He’s an excellent young talent and if nothing comes out of it with Spurs, I’m sure he will be featuring in our first team in no time.”

With Premier League sides Tottenham, also Stoke City and even  interested in the 17-year old winger, then you’d be excused for thinking that the youngster is bound for the top flight in English football, an impressive leap from the Academy side of a team playing in England’s sixth tier of football. However, it seems that the Premier League big boys will be joined by a host of Championship clubs with teams such as Charlton, Reading, Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday mentioned alongside their more illustrious footballing counterparts.

Ebbsfleet’s chairman Peter Varney realises, with pragmatism, that Ebbsfleet face a struggle to maintain a hold on Tracey in the face of such interest, realising that the youngster’s future is likely away from Ebbsfleet. Varney said that, “Do you stop the boy having the chance of a lifetime, with all the money you can earn in the Premier League? We’re trying to produce players for Ebbsfleet but if you produce a top-class player like Shilow, you can’t hold the lad back.”
