Leeds United: keeper search update

After goalkeeper Marco Silvestri suffered a notable drop in form, there were movements towards bringing in a loan keeper to provide ‘competition’ for the young Italian stopper. Not so now though, according to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The YEP state that the change in direction and focus is due to an upsurge in form that has seen Leeds’ #1 put in a string of more consistent and impressive performances. The level of these performances have caught the eye of Leeds United head coach Steve Evans who admitted that, “If he performs like he has been doing there will be no goalkeeper coming in.”

Silvestri had been regularly criticised by a number of Leeds United support with criticisms aimed at a tendency to flap and punch incoming balls, rather than cleanly catching them. Other criticisms included a supposed inability to command his area effectively.

However, it now seems that the goalkeeper situation is now more clear and that youngster Charlie Horton, an American U-23 international, will continue to deputise for Silvestri on the Leeds United bench. With ex-Chelsea stopper Ross Turnbull still sidelined with a broken ankle, this does leave the Whites a little short of goalkeeping cover but it appears that this is something not unduly worrying Steve Evans.
