Kyle Lafferty

Leeds enquire about Premier League forward

Leeds United boss Steve Evans has confirmed that he has made an enquiry about Norwich City striker Kyle Lafferty, according to the BBC.

Lafferty, 28, has only featured once for the Norfolk side since their return to the top flight.

However, he played a vital part in helping Northern Ireland qualify for their first major tournament since the 1986 World Cup, scoring seven goals throughout the qualifying campaign for Euro 2016.

Despite this form for his country, Lafferty has struggled to hold down a regular first team place at Norwich, since joining them in the summer of 2014 from Palermo.

He ended last season on loan at Turkish club Rizespor.

He could be a valuable asset to Leeds if they were to pull off a loan deal, as cover for striker Chris Wood. Lee Erwin, a summer signing from Scottish side Motherwell, is currently out on loan at League One Bury, meaning that Leeds could do with extra bodies upfront.

Whites boss Steve Evans confirmed that he has called Norwich manager Alex Neil, to enquire about Lafferty’s situation.

Evans has only just arrived at Elland Road, after Massimo Cellino sacked Uwe Rosler last month.

However, bigger changes could be upcoming for the West Yorkshire club, as Cellino is reportedly willing to sell the club to interested parties.

Leeds currently lie in 15th place in the Sky Bet Championship, after a 3-0 victory at Huddersfield Town last time out.
