Ex-Forest trialist closing in on Ajax transfer

Ionut Rus, a youngster who had a trial at Nottingham Forest over the summer, is set to sign for Dutch giants Ajax. Nottingham Post is reporting that several Romanian newspapers believe that this transfer will now take place.

The 16-year-old goalkeeper was even pictured wearing a Nottingham Forest jersey earlier this year, as he looked to earn himself a contract with the City Ground outfit. However Rus now looks to have secured a deal to move to the Amsterdam club, who have won four European Cup/Champions League titles in their illustrious history.

The tweet below shows Rus during his time training with Forest in July of this year.

However the tweet below now shows Rus geared up in an Ajax training kit.

It is believed that the club, managed by Dougie Freedman, elected to pass up the option to hand the shotstopper a deal, for reasons unknown. Perhaps in 10 or 20 years’ time they may look back on this moment with some regret. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be the first or last time that a club decides not to offer a contract to a player, who goes on to ‘make it’.
